The pictures of Silverthorne Lake Recreational Site/Houston Community Forest were taken on May 12, 2016 and is just the first of many to come.

The Houston Community Forest is a recreational site that has so much to offer. In summer months, both locals and travelers can take advantage of this small, but productive lake,
with rainbow trout of to 8 pounds.

The lake is a wonderful place to take your family to, there are campsites with fire pits, (check for campfire bans) and a good boat launch, pit toilets and picnic tables. You can go canoeing and kayaking around the lake, keeping your eyes open for the numerous wildlife that visit the lake.

You can take advantage of the vast areas to hike in, including the alpine forest that surrounds Silverthorne Lake.

Also when winter sets in, the Houston Community Forest houses the
Morice Mountain Nordic Ski Club.

The club looks after approximately 26km of trails and they have so much more. Above is their website, and they also have a Facebook page as well. You can find the Morice Mountain Nordic Ski Club's Facebook at:

I will be adding additional photos and information on the Houston Community Forest/Silverthorne Lake Recreational Site in the coming weeks.

Please do take the time to research the site and plan a trip either in the summer or winter, the area has it all.

Getting to Silverthorne Lake: Travel through town heading west of Houston until you come to Buck Flats road, turn left and follow the road for 8km south and when you arrive, it will be a right turn off of Buck Flats road where you will see some buildings, just follow the road straight into the lake.
