Canada Day Celebrates 148th Birthday In Houston British Columbia (Photos & Video)

Canada day (French: Fête du Canada) is the national day of Canada, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act, 1867 (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united three colonies (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the United Province of Canada) into a single country called Canada within the British Empire.

Originally called Dominion Day (French: Le Jour de la Confédération), the holiday was renamed in 1982, the year the Canada Act was enacted, resulting in the patriation of the Constitution of Canada.

Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada, as well as among Canadians internationally.

Canada Day was celebrated at the Jamie Baxter Park, in Houston, B.C. There were a number of things to do, in the Spirit Square Amphitheatre you could listen in to music, or throw balls to dunk the person sitting in the dunk tank.

There was face painting for the children, and they had a lot of fun in the bouncy Castle and playing games. People were handing out Canadian flags, there was popcorn if you needed that buttery fix. There also was a number of booths set up with folks selling their home products.

There also was a BBQ, that was sponsored by the Houston Council.

There was something I did not know, and really enjoyed this a lot. Troy Reitsma and a group of others were dressed to the hilt in medieval period outfits having sword fights on the lawn. It was really cool.

Some of the folks there with Troy told me they have a working Castle between Houston and Smithers B.C. and that they put on a lot of medieval events throughout the year.

There were other things happening throughout the day, but the heat got to me, so I was not able to stay as much as I would have liked to.

So below I have some photos that I took, and a couple of videos on some of what happened at the Canada Day celebrations.

Picture Below: I wanted to place an image of a Canadian flag in this post. I looked around the internet and found hundreds of Canadian flags, but I was trying to keep Houston’s celebrations, all Houston.

So I stopped by the District of Houston’s, Municipal Office where they had out front, three flags, the towns, the British Columbia flag, and the Canadian flag. There wasn’t a lot of wind, but I took the picture and have it displayed proudly below.

Below Photo: Picture of one of the singers who performed today. I did not catch her name, but if someone would be kind enough to let me know, I certainly can add it here.

Picture Below: There was a group of folks who were carrying a good tune preforming there as well.

The Below Photo: First of all I took the picture and when I got home and uploading all the material for the day, I discovered this picture had everyone looking rather red. I wondered what happened, but I soon clued in.

The covering canopy over everyone was the color red, so this the reason for the red faces.

I wanted to make sure I left the picture up, as there is a really cool story to go with these great bunch of people. I will be adding the information and photos to this story soon. There is a place between Houston and Smithers, B.C. where you travel back in time into the medieval period where there are Kings and Princesses.
